Soho Legends Share All at Soho Music Month

Mark Powell - Suggs - Philip Sallon - Princess Julia

This July, Soho Music Month, a free music and culture festival, teams up with Soho aficionado Chris Sullivan to host a series of talks with some incredible Soho legends. Bringing together a line up of true Soho ‘ace faces’, Sullivan will uncover tales of misdemeanour, style mongering and general high jinx within the square mile that will have you rolling in the aisles.

Chris Sullivan, the founder of Wardour Street’s famous Wag Club, writer, DJ and West End gadabout, will be chairing the Soho-centric talks with some of London’s greatest icons and raconteurs at The Clachan on Kingly Street. Sullivan starts on 15th July with Mark Powell who has had his menswear tailoring business in Soho for 35 years. Powell’s client list includes Naomi Campbell , Paul Weller and Bradley Wiggins, while his knowledge of Soho along with his tales of  nocturnal meanderings are legendary.

On 20th July, Sullivan shares the stage with Suggs of Madness. There is no pop star in the world more capable of commenting on the style and musical legacy of Soho than the beloved Suggs McPherson. Passionate about Soho, he first took to the streets as a toddler accompanied by his mother,  eminent jazz singer the late Edie McPherson. He recalls “I remember when Hendrix was about, when Ella Fitzgerald played Ronnie’s in 1974, the Sex Pistols performing  the Marquee, Afrika Bambaataa at The Wag Club and  Amy Winehouse at the Astoria. Soho is a very special place”.

For 22nd July  the infamous Mud Club promoter, Philip Sallon is in the chair. At the centre of London night life since the 1970s he is one of the most important and outlandish nightclub promoters of the 20th century.  Guests are sure to hear many humorous tales from the man himself.

The final talk on 29th July is with "the first lady of London's fashion scene." – Princess Julia – who has carved a career as one of London's leading  DJ’s and iD Magazine’s music editor while maintaining her status as one of London’s most innovative dressers. Julia will tell of her times at iconic London spots such as The Blitz Club, Kinky Gerlinky,  Leigh Bowery’s Taboo  and Boombox.
