SHAFTESBURY ANNOUNCES THE RETURN OF DARJEELING EXPRESS TO KINGLY COURT

Shaftesbury is pleased to confirm that the long-anticipated new home of Darjeeling Express is Kingly Court, Carnaby, a return to their original location and “spiritual home”. Darjeeling Express restaurant from pioneering restaurateur Asma Khan, will open on the second floor of Kingly Court in early 2023.

From inception Darjeeling Express has operated with an all-female team and takes pride in showcasing the traditional family dishes of Asma and her team. The menu will include the iconic Kosha Mangsho- Bengali Goat Curry. Favourites from the original restaurant will also be returning like the Mutton Shikampuri Kabab and Beetroot Chop. On Sundays they will be serving up traditional Indian brunch of Halwa Channa Puri, stuffed parathas with masala omelettes with bottomless masala chai. Before the official opening there will be a series of dinners celebrating a decade of Darjeeling Express.

Julia Wilkinson, Restaurant Director at Shaftesbury says: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Asma back to Kingly Court. After starting out here 5 years ago and rapidly out-growing their original unit, it is exciting that Darjeeling Express is returning to a larger, permanent restaurant space. The Carnaby customer has missed Asma’s hospitality and signature dishes and is also looking forward to the extended new menu that a bigger kitchen will be able to offer.”

Asma Khan, Founder of Darjeeling Express says: “Coming back to Kingly Court feels like a homecoming. There is a comfort in returning to all the familiar faces from the landlord's team to the cleaning and security staff. Leaving Kingly Court over the pandemic was a difficult decision and for us to return to a buzzing, busy, vibrant courtyard feels incredible! We are really looking forward to serving everyone again.”

The restaurant will join existing Kingly Court restaurants including Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, Marsha, Korean Dinner Party and Club Mexicana.
