SHAFTESBURY ANNOUNCES MIND’S FIRST MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY SHOP TO OPEN IN CARNABY

Shaftesbury announces that leading mental health charity Mind will open its doors to a new and unique charity shop at 8 Ganton Street, Carnaby. The 563 sq ft store will open on Wednesday 12th October during the week of World Mental Health Day.

This will be Carnaby’s first permanent charity shop and will house a carefully curated collection of preloved vintage and designer stock for the stylish W1 shopper. Items in store currently include the likes of luxury designers Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, Coach and Louis Vuitton, plus new stock will be added to the shelves each day meaning no two shopping experiences will be the same.

Spanning across two floors, the space has oak wood floors, neon lighting and an array of chic displays. Shoppers can head downstairs to a separate changing room area to try on their one-of-a-kind finds. The warm and welcoming interior will embody the Mind brand, creating a mindful and comforting space for those who visit.

The latest addition demonstrates Shaftesbury’s commitment to community, the planet and to the fight for better mental health. The store will open on the week of World Mental Health day (10th October) and will help to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilise efforts in support of mental health.

Samantha Bain-Mollison, Retail Director at Shaftesbury says: “We are so excited to welcome Mind to Carnaby. This will be the first permanent Mental Health charity shop in the destination, and we are happy to be supporting such a worthy cause. We are confident the concept will help raise awareness for mental health alongside generating funding for their life saving services.”

Mind is asking locals to support the new shop in three simple ways:

●      Drop in and donate: Each bag of donations, however small, could make a big difference. Carnaby Mind shop is pleased to accept clothing and accessories. To find out more about making donations, visit: mind.org.uk/supportyourshop

●      Pick up a bargain: Mind shops add new items of stock to the shelves every day, so no two shopping experiences are the same. Pop into Carnaby Mind shop regularly to be the first to see the latest bargains and thrift for unique treasures.

●      Lend a hand: Volunteering doesn’t need to be a big time-consuming commitment – even just an hour a week could make a huge difference. It’s a great way to make new friends, build confidence and can also be a route back into work. To find out more about volunteering visit: mind.org.uk/supportyourshop

Andrew Vale, Managing Director of Retail at Mind, said: “We are thrilled to be opening a new shop in Carnaby and cannot wait to welcome the public in on Wednesday 12 October. With such an exciting location, this store will offer a more innovative design and will feature top designer and vintage items for just a fraction of the cost.

“The pandemic has had a devastating effect on the nation’s mental health, and the cost-of-living crisis is already making things worse. We are in the midst of a mental health crisis and that’s why your support is needed now more than ever. When you make a purchase in our shop you are helping to fund mental health services like the Mind Infoline and peer support platform Side by Side. You are also enabling us to continue to campaign for the rights of the one in four of us who experience a mental health problem every year.”

Mind’s shops have been on the high street for over 60 years and rely on over 3,000 volunteers and 450 dedicated staff across England and Wales to keep shops running.

Mind welcomes the public to donate pre-loved items and encourages shoppers searching for affordable fashion or gifts. All the profit goes to support Mind, by helping the charity deliver support in local communities via its network of local Minds, or to fund vital advice and support services such as the Mind Infoline.

The average bag of items donated to Mind shops is worth around £30. This amount could help 45 people find hope during tough times on Mind’s online peer support community ‘Side by Side’ or help Mind send out 250 information booklets, so people who are struggling with their mental health can make sense of what they are going through and find ways to cope.

Customers can also make a further contribution to Mind’s work by filling in a Gift Aid form potentially allowing the charity to claim 25% of the sale price of the donations from the government in Gift Aid.

Joint agents Hanover Green Retail, Nash Bond and Cushman & Wakfield acted on behalf of Shaftesbury.
